Infrared Thermal Imaging

I have heard many comments about thermal imaging and home inspections. Some are negative but most are positive. Recently I did a home inspection and there where multiple ceilings that where stained. My client was worried the roof may need replacement. I had inspected the roof and the shingles looked good, after getting the infrared camera out I confirmed the ceilings were dry. This was a vacant home and we later found out there was some ice damming over the winter which resulted in a small amount of back up. Everything in the attic was dry too, no mold, just a minor incident.
Another interesting call I had recently was from a client who was installing a car lift in his garage. When he built the garage he had the contractor install Pex tubing in the concrete slab for radiant floor heat. Now he was afraid that bolting the frame for the car lift would damage the Pex and had no idea where the tubing was in the floor. When I arrived he turned the boiler on and after 20 minutes or so the tubing started to glow bright orange on the screen of my camera. With the laser pointed at the floor I was able to guide him as he used a magic marker to mark out the floor and within an hour we had a complete layout of all the Pex tubing. Funny thing was I also found one of the lines had a kink in it and one section of the floor had restricted flow through the tubes but still functioned fine.
Here are two success stories about Infrared Thermal Imaging. I will post more about my adventures around New England and if you would like to learn more about thermal imaging please visit my web site. www.newenglandthermalimaging.com
